General Inclement Weather Info:

When inclement weather is forecasted, please stay tuned to local media for closings, delayed openings, or early dismissals.  Please do not call the school to verify closings or delays.

2025-2026 Inclement Weather Plan for Closings:

As we head into the winter months, we want to provide an important reminder regarding our Virtual Inclement Weather Day Plan for the 2025-2026 school year. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has given local school systems the option to repurpose inclement weather days as virtual school days. Our plan is to transition to virtual school days after three inclement weather closures.

After three full-day closures, when inclement weather is forecasted, BCPS leadership will monitor the weather forecast and families will be notified if BCPS will transition to virtual learning that day. Students will be reminded to bring devices, chargers, and other instructional materials home. Staff will also be asked to prepare lessons and materials.

Delays and Early Dismissals:

**Unless the school office is notified in writing, children are dismissed their normal way.  If YMCA aftercare is closed, those students will be dismissed as car riders.  Students may only ride a bus home if that is their normal dismissal routine.

When schools open 1 hour late: 

  • Doors open at 9:25 and students must be in the building by 9:40.

  • No half day morning prek. Full day prek is still in session.

  • No YMCA before care program.

  • Breakfast will be served.

When schools open 2 hours late: 

  • Doors open at 10:25 and students must be in the building by 10:40.

  • No half day morning prek. Full day prek is still in session.

  • No YMCA before care program.

  • Breakfast will be served.

When schools close 2 hours early: 

  • Students are dismissed at 1:25.

  • No aftercare programs at the YMCA aftercare. Aftercare students will be dismissed as car riders and will need to be picked up at 1:25 pm.

  • No half day afternoon prek. Full day prek is still in session.

  • There will be no mid-day bus for prek students.  Prek students will need to be picked up at 11:10.

  • Lunch will be served.

When schools close 3 hours early:

  • Students are dismissed at 12:25.

  • No aftercare programs at the YMCA aftercare. Aftercare students will be dismissed as car riders and will need to be picked up at 12:25 pm.

  • No half day afternoon prek. Full day prek is still in session.

  • There will be no mid-day prek bus for prek students.  Prek students will need to be picked up at 11:10 or they can take their regular bus home to the bus stop at 12:25.  Please inform the prek teacher if your child will be staying or picked up at 11:10.

  • Lunch will be served.

When BCPS cancels after school activities:

  • No onsite YMCA aftercare. All onsite YMCA students will be dismissed as car riders and must be picked up at dismissal, 3:25 pm.
  • No after school clubs. Students will be dismissed their normal way.
